High Speed Signal Amplifier with Peak Hold
mmu_module-smStrain and force measurement can present many challenges to machine builders and system integrators.  Some of these include sensor integration, and high production cycle rates…sometimes the sensing system or PLC just can’t respond fast enough for reliable performance.  OES has developed a simple and effective solution for small signal applications and is ideal for Piezo Strain sensor or force sensor application - the OES model “MMU Amplifier” with Peak Hold.

The Peak Hold feature of the OES MMU Amplifier Module™ allows even older PLC systems to stay in synch with the fastest production cycles. The MMU captures and “holds” the peak reading until the PLC can scan and reset the sample hold value.  This feature ensures high reliability in force measurement for even very fast machine cycles.

mmu_cntrlr_w_sensor_-_smUsed with a Piezo Strain Transducer,  the MMU Amplifier Module is an effective quality measurement solution for use in a wide range of process monitoring and control applications, including the pharmaceutical industry (tablet presses) and the automotive industry (broaching machines, various presses). The system, comprised of a piezo electric strain sensor and DIN rail mounted amplifier module, can be installed and running in a matter of minutes.  In these applications, the piezo strain sensor mounts to the mechanical frame of the press at a select location to provide force feedback related to the work being done on a part or process element.  The sensor measures the micro deflection of the frame in response to the process, which can be scaled to the actual force.  The MMU’s high resolution analogue output (0-10VDC) can be directly correlated to units of force and can be configured for tension or compression, depending on the mounting location of the sensor.

The amplifier module provides signal conditioning and amplification with a 0-10VDC analogue output relative to force, and is connected to the host PLC system.  Dip switches allow the user to configure Gain and Attenuation, and optionally enable the Peak Hold feature.

This system is ideally suited for monitoring and verifying broaching, stamping, crimping, press fit, riveting or other force fabrication applications, including material presence and misalignment.  It is ideally suited for OEM integration or for retrofit to existing process applications.
